Dirol is a French municipality with 116 inhabitants (at January 1, 2017) in the department of Nièvre in the region of Bourgogne Franche-Comté . It belongs to the Arrondissement of Clamecy and the Tannay-Brinon-Corbigny community association founded in 2016 .
geography
The municipality is located on the Yonne west of the Morvan Mountains, about 65 kilometers northeast of Nevers . The Canal du Nivernais with three locks runs parallel to the Yonne in the municipality of Dirol. The predominantly flat to slightly undulating landscape shows an alternation of fields, meadows, smaller forest areas and hedges. The districts of Le Chintre, Les Millerins and Les Chaumes du Bois Camusat belong to the municipality of Dirol . Neighboring municipalities of Dirol are Flez-Cuzy in the north, Vignol and Monceaux-le-Comte in the northeast, Ruages in the east, Marigny-sur-Yonne in the south, Germenay in the southwest, Challement in the west and Lys and Saint-Didier in the northwest.
Place name
The community name originated from the Latin Durellum (1287) and changed via Diroul (1473) to the Dirol used since around 1550 .

Economy and Infrastructure
There are six farms in the municipality of Dirol (cereal cultivation, horse, goat and sheep breeding).
Dirol is located away from the nationally important traffic routes. On the right, eastern bank of the Yonne , the D985 trunk road (former Route nationale 485 ) runs from Clamecy to Corbigny . There is a connection to the A77 Autoroute in La Charité-sur-Loire , 64 kilometers away . The railway line leading through Dirol from Clamecy to Corbigny was opened in 1868; the nearest train station is in Corbigny, eight kilometers away.
