Chaumot is located about 62 kilometers south of Auxerre on the Canal du Nivernais and the Yonne , which borders the municipality to the east. Chaumot is surrounded by the neighboring communities of Germenay in the north and north-west, Marigny-sur-Yonne in the north and north-east, Chitry-les-Mines in the east, Corbigny in the east and south-east, Pazy in the south and west and Héry in the north-west.
