The movement oasis ( s. : Oasis Movement ; it. : Movimiento Oasis ; Fri : Mouvement Oasis ; it. : Movimento Oasi ) is an international Roman Catholic association of the faithful . It was founded in Rome in 1950 and recognized papally in 1952; it is represented in 8 countries worldwide.

history

The founding day of the Oase Movement is November 1st, 1950, this day is identical to the proclamation of the dogma of the assumption of Mary into heaven . The movement came about on the initiative of Father Virginio Rotondi (1912–1990), who belonged to the Jesuit order , and was founded by a group of students. In 1952, the Congregation for the Doctrine of the Faith recognized the movement as a spiritual community under papal law, and Pope Pius XII welcomed it during a special audience . (1939-1958) the members and underlined in his address the importance of this movement. Other popes supported the work of the movement, so that it expanded to the parish, diocesan , national and international level and has also been represented in the Ukrainian Orthodox Church since 1992 .

Self-image

The spirituality of the movement requires five characteristics as a basis: The young people should be able to serve, be interested in the world, adopt the attitude of service, obey Christ and obey their brothers too. This also gives rise to the forms of membership, which consist of four levels: engagement in service, promise , consecration and animators (group leaders). The training of the members takes place in a training series of courses and is determined by the fact that: “Life becomes perfect in so far as it is in accordance with the will of God”.

Organization and expansion

The Oase Movement is not a well-structured organization and therefore does not have a precise number of members. The groups integrated in the parishes are led by a so-called "animator", all groups of the regions and the states are integrated into the church structure . Since 1990, after the death of the founder, an “international team” was formed, to which the “international secretariat” is affiliated. The movement is the "ANCILLA DOMINI" secular institute , the Father Virginio Rotondi Foundation and the Villaggio Nuova Speranza social welfare organization in São Mateus (Espírito Santo) ( Brazil ). It is headquartered in the Centro Internazionale Movimento Osasi in Castel Gandolfo .
