Districts of the canton of Appenzell Innerrhoden

The canton of Appenzell Innerrhoden comprises six districts . In the canton of Appenzell Innerrhoden, the districts are the lowest administrative unit and thus largely correspond to the municipalities in the other cantons. At the federal level, they are therefore referred to as political municipalities for reasons of uniform terminology . In contrast to the municipalities in the rest of Switzerland, however, the districts are not the bearers of municipal citizenship , but the two parts of the country; there is only one municipal citizenship right for Appenzell (inner part of the country) and one of Oberegg (outer part of the country).

For the village of Appenzell , whose districts are in three districts (Appenzell, Rüte and Schwende), there is also the fire show community .
