Municipalities of the Canton of Glarus since 2011

The canton of Glarus since January 1, 2011 includes three political communities , as united communities are called. The community reform was decided on May 7, 2006 by the rural community . Until December 31, 2010, the canton of Glarus consisted of 25  local , 18  school , 16 welfare and 9  civic communities (civic communities were called Tagwen).

In addition to the land areas of the three municipalities, the total area of ​​the canton also includes a portion of the Walensee area of 4.63 km².

Changes in the community

Before the Glarus community reform , the canton of Glarus was divided into 25 local communities , before the mergers of 2006 ( Haslen , Leuggelbach , Nidfurn ) and 2004 ( Luchsingen , Hätzingen , Diesbach ) into 29. The communities Filzbach , Mühlehorn and Obstalden were created in 1887 through the division the former municipality of Kerenzen-Mühlehorn . Braunwald was separated from Rüti as an independent municipality in 1939 .
