Mitlödi is a former political municipality in the canton of Glarus in Switzerland .

The village became a new one on January 1, 2011 as part of the Glarus community reform with the communities Betschwanden , Braunwald , Elm , Engi , Haslen , Linthal , Luchsingen , Matt , Rüti (GL) , Schwanden (GL) , Schwändi , and Sool Glarus South municipality merged.

geography

Mitlödi lies between Glarus and Schwanden . The village parts Mitlödi and Horgenberg are on the left, Ennetlinth on the right side of the Linth , which flows northwards here. The village is exposed to the south and is located between two gullies on prehistoric landslide masses. The municipality extends on steep slopes to the left of the Linth to the Vorder Glärnisch at 2327 m above sea level. M. and right of the river to Chrisegg 1987 m above sea level. M. 32.1% of the municipal area is agricultural land, 56.1% is forest, 7.4% is settlement area and 4.5% is unproductive.

Around 1300 the village consisted of the three hamlets Nieder-Mitlödi, Ober-Mitlödi and Horgenberg. Until 1395 the place was liable to taxes for the Säckingen monastery. In the mid-15th century Mitlödi put the in the person of Conrad Rietler Landammann . In 1527 Mitlödi was the meeting place for the rural community .

In 1528 the Reformation prevailed in Mitlödi. The village church was consecrated in 1725. After a fire in 1752, the church tower was given a slim helmet by the well-known master builder Hans Ulrich Grubenmann .

In the second half of the 18th century, there was an economic boom through the production and trade in tables and wadding, as well as through the manufacture of cotton products in the publishing system . A large textile printing company was founded in the 19th century . This branch of production still exists today alongside the production of medicines, margarine, tools and machines.
