Schwändi is a former political municipality in the canton of Glarus in Switzerland .
The village was under the Glarner municipal reform on 1 January 2011, with the municipalities Betschwanden , Braunwald , Elm , Engi , Haslen , Linthal , Luchsingen , Matt , Mitlödi , Rüti (GL) , Schwanden (GL) and Sool merged to Glarus South merged.
coat of arms
The Schwändi coat of arms was designed by Ida Tschudi for the Landi in 1939 and accepted by the community assembly. It is based on the family coat of arms of the Schwend family in Zurich.

The municipality includes Oberschwändi, Unterschwändi and the hamlet of Lassingen. The municipality of Schwändi lies in the area of the demolition material of a prehistoric landslide. The landscape is strongly characterized by the rivers that come down from the Vorderglärnisch on both sides of the village. 4.0% of the community area is populated, 33.0% are used for agriculture, 27.6% are forested and 35.3% are unproductive.

history
Field names indicate an Alemannic settlement.
Ober-Mitledin was first mentioned in the land register of the Säckingen monastery around 1300 . In the middle of the 14th century, Swendi appears in its place . As is known, 34 farmers and craftsmen lived in Schwändi in 1163. The inhabitants were originally church-dwelling after Glarus. After the church was built, they moved to Schwanden in 1349 . They converted to the Reformed faith in 1528.
There has been a school in the community since 1785, which was able to move into the primary school in 1835.
The road to Schwanden was completed in 1845, the one to Glarus in 1870.
