Leuggelbach is a village that has belonged to the municipality of Glarus Süd in the Swiss canton of Glarus since January 1, 2011 . Until July 1, 2006, Leuggelbach formed an independent local parish , after which it was part of the local parish Haslen for four and a half years .
geography
The village developed mainly along the main road, on the left side of the Glarus valley between Luchsingen and Nidfurn . The Leuggelbach flows, coming from the Leuggelstock, over a waterfall to the valley floor. There a moor area arose in the Guetli , the only one in the valley level of the Glarnerland. Of the former municipality area, 39.4% is agricultural land, 50.9% is forest, 4.6% is settlement area and 5.1% is unproductive.

The SP had 65.1% of the vote, 38.5% of the votes went to other parties (as of October 2005).
history
Leuggelbach was first mentioned in 1359 as Löckelbach .
Until 1772, Leuggelbach was part of the church in Schwanden , later partly in Luchsingen. It was not until the partition agreement of 1868 that Leuggelbach became an independent local community.
From the middle of the 19th century there was an economic boom in Leuggelbach when Daniel Jenny-Oertli set up a weaving mill on Leuggelbach. In 1864 the Mollis company Gallatin & Cie. the area and built a printing factory. Since 1933, their properties have housed a paint and varnish factory.
On July 1, 2006, the local community Leuggelbach, together with the local community Nidfurn, was merged with the local community Haslen . Since the beginning of 2011, all of these localities have belonged to the newly formed municipality of Glarus Süd .
