Oberurnen is a former political municipality in the canton of Glarus in Switzerland .
As part of the Glarus community reform on January 1, 2011, the village was merged with the communities of Bilten , Filzbach , Mollis , Mühlehorn , Näfels , Niederurnen and Obstalden to form the new unified community of Glarus Nord .
geography
Oberurnen is located in the lower part of the canton of Glarus. A bypass road prevents traffic to Glarus from passing through the village. The neighboring communities were Niederurnen in the north, Mollis in the east, Näfels in the south and the Schwyz communities of Innerthal in the southwest and Schübelbach in the northwest.

The predominantly spoken language is Swiss German .
Denominations
Like Näfels, the municipality of Oberurnen did not join the Reformation either . Therefore, the majority of the population is of the Roman Catholic denomination.
traffic
Oberurnen is well connected to public transport. The village can be reached by train at the Nieder- and Oberurnen train station of the SBB or by bus from Ziegelbrücke .
Not far away is the A3 motorway , which offers good connections to Zurich and Basel as well as to Chur and Graubünden via the Niederurnen (44) junction .
Schools, colleges
The village has a kindergarten, a primary school and a day school for special needs education.
Attractions
The outer bailey of Oberurnen is an old castle ruin that is well worth seeing.
