Systematics

The genus Biebersteinia was established in 1806 by Christian Friedrich Stephan in Zapiski Obshchestva Ispytatelei Prirody, Osnovannogo Pri Imperatorskom Moskovskom Universitetĕ , 1, p. 126. Type species is Biebersteinia odora Stephan ex Fisch. A homonym is Biebersteinia Steph. ex fish. ( Hort. Gorenk. , 1808, p. 88). The botanical genus name Biebersteinia honors the German botanist and explorer Friedrich August Freiherr Marschall von Bieberstein (1768–1826).

The genus Biebersteinia used to belong to the Geraniaceae family . According to Alexandra N. Muellner, Dionyssios D. Vassiliades & Susanne S. Renner: Placing Biebersteiniaceae, a herbaceous clade of Sapindales, in a temporal and geographic context in Plant Systematics and Evolution , Volume 266, Issue 3-4, 2007, p. 233 –252 it forms its own family Biebersteiniaceae Endl. within the order Sapindales .

There are only four or five species in the genus Biebersteinia :

  • Biebersteinia heterostemon Maxim. : It thrives at altitudes between 1000 and 3800 meters in the Chinese provinces of Gansu, Ningxia, Qinghai, Sichuan and Xizang.
  • Biebersteinia multifida DC. (Syn .: Biebersteinia rucheri Walp. , Biebersteinia ambigua Jaub. & Spach , Biebersteinia aucheri Jaub. & Spach , Biebersteinia brachypetala Jaub. & Spach , Biebersteinia leiosepala Jaub. & Spach , Biebersteinia multifida var. Straussii Hausskn. Ex Bornm. ): You is common in Asia from southeastern Turkey to Lebanon and to Central Asia.
  • Biebersteinia odora Stephan ex Fisch. : It is common in Asia in Russia, Tajikistan, northern Pakistan, northern India, Kashmir, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, China (only in Xinjiang and Xizang at altitudes of (1600 to) 4300 to 5600 meters) and in Mongolia.
  • Biebersteinia orphanidis Boiss. : It occurs only in Asia Minor , the occurrence in southern Greece (Killini Oros) is probably extinct
