history

The place name of Biechów is derived from the Polish word byka for ox after the German linguist Heinrich Adamy . From the first name Bycowice , Adamy derived the meaning of the name Rinderdorf . In 1937 the place name was Germanized after its location on the Oder to Oderhorst , since 1945 the place has been called Biechów .

The village was in the immediate vicinity of the Głogow copper smelter. Shortly after the copper smelter went into operation, strong soil contamination from lead, zinc and copper was found in Biechów and the surrounding area , and many residents of the village and the surrounding villages suffered from diseases such as leukemia or organ degeneration , which were directly related to environmental pollution from the copper plant were due. Then the residents left the place. In 1998 the operator of the copper smelter, KGHM Polska Miedź , received approval to demolish the local buildings. The village has been completely deserted since 2003; on December 1, 2003, the location from Biechów to Głogow was incorporated.

Until 1945 the place belonged to the German Empire . After the border was drawn in the period after the Second World War , Biechów came to the Republic of Poland . Between 1975 and 1998 the place belonged to the Legnica Voivodeship , after its dissolution as a result of a territorial reform, Biechów came to the Lower Silesian Voivodeship .
