Bienvenido Brens

Bienvenido Brens Florimón (born July 30, 1925 in Pimentel , † January 18, 2007 in Santo Domingo ) was a Dominican musician and composer.

Brens founded the group Los Alegres Dominicanos with Luis Kalaff and Pablo Molina in 1944 , with whom he performed at Voz Dominicana . He composed sons, waltzes, criollas, plenas, guarachas, merengues, boleros, mediatunas, mangulinas and danzas such as Al retorno , Apágame la vela, María , La cárcel de Sing Sing , Míl copas , Ninfa del alma , No me abandones , Peregrina sin amor and Tú no recuerdas . The most important interpreters of his compositions were Elenita Santos and Carlos Pizarro. Panchito Riset , Lope Balaguer , Julio Jaramillo , Danny Rivera , Johnny Ventura , Luchy Vicioso , Vinicio Franco and Francis Santana also sang songs by him. His Bolero Bendito Amor was premiered by Alberto Beltrán and later interpreted by international artists such as Los hermanos Lago , Leo Marini and the Mexican trio Los tres diamantes . In 1973 he was awarded the Knight's Cross of the Order of Merit Duarte, Sánchez y Mella by the Dominican government .
