Panchito Riset ( Francisco Hilario Riser Rincón ; born October 21, 1910 in Havana , † August 8, 1988 in New York City ) was a Cuban son and bolero singer.

Riset played the guitar in his childhood and began his musical career as a member of the sextet Juvenil Atarés . He founded and then headed the Sexteto Esmeralda and switched to Sexteto Cauto in 1927 . This was followed by other ensembles such as the Septeto Bolero , the Sexteto Habanero (1928), the Sexteto Caney (1933) and finally the Orquesta de Ismael Díaz .

Riset made his first appearance in the USA in New York's Madison Royal with the Orquesta Antobal's Cubans , with whom he also recorded his first album. On this it was erroneously listed as Panchito Riset (instead of Riser) and kept this name. He also performed in Cubanacán and had a live show on the radio that made him known in New York. Eventually he got the opportunity to work with the orchestras of Xavier Cugat and Enrique Madriguera .

In 1934 he returned to Cuba and performed at Club Yumuri with the orchestra of Eliseo Grenet . Between 1934 and 1937 numerous recordings were made in the USA with the Grupo Victoria de Rafael Hernández , the Cuarteto de Don Pedro Flores and the Cuarteto Caney . During this time he got to know the actress Eleanor Powell and at her suggestion went to Hollywood, where he had triumphant appearances with her and later with Ann Miller and Desi Arnaz at the Trocadero nightclub . In 1938 he returned to New York and founded his own orchestra, with which he performed at the La Conga nightclub . With the Orquesta La Conga he recorded La Comparsa de Camajuaní , Pepita and Por Corrientes Va Una Conga and the Son Ensueño .

As a soldier in the US Army, he took part in the Second World War between 1943 and 1945, including various battles in Normandy. After the war he made further recordings with the orchestras of René Hernandez and Lija Ortiz . Were known Melancolía Y Mi Gloria of Luis Kalaff , Peregrina Sin Amor and Mil Copas of Bienvenido Brens , Deseo Bohemio and Háblame ClrO of Francisco Simó Damiron , Todo Me Gusta De Ti of Leonel Sánchez and Amor Y Odio , Ella and No Me Pidas Olvido of Armando Cabrera .

Due to diabetes, both legs were amputated in 1981, but Riset remained active as a musician. At the Telemaratón de la Sociedad de Niños y Adultos Lisiados de Puerto Rico in New York in 1983 , moderated by Pedro Zervigón , he excelled alongside Celia Cruz , Iris Chacón , Ruth Fernández and Myrta Silva with Blancas Azucenas and other titles. At a charity event in his favor, organized by the Puerto Rican singer Gilda Mirós and in which Joe Quijano , Mario Bauzá , Charlie Palmieri , Mario Hernández and La Sonora Matancera took part with the singer Bobby Capó , he sang two months before his Death of Cuando Salí De Cuba and Guantanamera .
