The Bilger Verlag GmbH (proper spelling: "bilger publisher GmbH") is a Swiss publishing house based in Zurich .

In 1983 Ricco Bilger founded the bookstore "Sec52" at Josefstrasse 52 in Zurich. Attached to the bookstore was a gallery which, as a platform for young Swiss art, carried out first exhibitions by and collaborations with artists such as Ugo Rondinone, Alex Herzog, Hannes Brunner, Elsbeth Kuchen, Dagmar Heinrich and Yves Netzhammer . At the same time, the first books by young Swiss writers appeared in “edition sec52” and later in “Verlag Ricco Bilger”. The publication of the two books Techno and Ecstasy attracted particular attention . The authors published included André Vladimir Heiz, Urs Augstburger, Kristin T. Schnider, Elisabeth Wandeler-Deck , Roger Monnerat and Daniel Goetsch.

In 2001 the Bilgerverlag GmbH was founded by Ricco Bilger and Kurt Heimann, a company independent of the bookstore «Sec52». The graphic designer Alain Kupper was responsible for the design of the books and the branding. The logo, a six-fingered hand, was invented by graphic designer Pongo Zimmermann. From 2002, the design of the books and the visual appearance of the publishing house were overseen by Dario Benassa.

In 2005 Dario Benassa became a publishing partner. Since then, six to eight books have been published annually by Bilgerverlag under the motto "The mountain, the desert, the sky, the sea - literatures of the world". This is one of the so-called independent publishers. The main focus of publication is fiction , but other genres are also published. Examples are the photo book Hag um Hag by Mäddel Fuchs or the anthology Tanger Telegram by Florian Vetsch and Boris Kerenski .

In 2009 the publisher was one of the initiators of the Hotlist , the annual book prize awarded by independent publishers. The publishing house is located at Josefstrasse 52 in District 5, Zurich.
