Bill De Arango
William "Bill" De Arango (born September 20, 1921 in Cleveland (Ohio), † December 26, 2005 ibid) was an American jazz guitarist .
Live and act
De Arango played from 1939 in local bands of Dixieland and Chicago jazz . After his military service he moved to New York City in 1944 , where he played first with Don Byas and then with Ben Webster . During this time he opened up to the developments of modern jazz and played with Ike Quebec , Red Norvo , Charlie Ventura , Sarah Vaughan and Charlie Parker . In 1946 he was involved in Dizzy Gillespie's recording of 52nd Street Theme . Terry Gibbs played in his own band .
In 1948 he went back to his hometown, where he ran a music business, trained young guitarists and only performed occasionally. In 1954 he played a record with a trio around pianist Johnny Williams for EmArcY ; in the late 1960s he was a member of the rock band Henry Tree . In 1978 he was involved in a recording by Barry Altschul , in 1982 by Kenny Werner . He made a comeback in 1993 when he released a record with Joe Lovano , Ed and George Schuller . He continued to play in the region and made more records before retiring in 1999 due to age. An album with fellow guitarist Michael Bocian was only released in 2007.
