William Jennings "Bill" Sheffield (* 26. June 1928 in Spokane , Washington ) is a former American politician of the Democratic Party , the 1982-1986 Governor of the State of Alaska was.

Career

Sheffield studied at the DeForest Training School in Chicago and then served in the United States Army Air Corps from 1946 to 1949 . From 1953 he lived in Alaska. He is the founder and CEO of Sheffield Enterprises, Inc. , a hotel management company. He was also President of the Alaska Visitors Association and the Alaska Chamber of Commerce and National Director of the US Jaycees . Sheffield was also a member of the Anchorage City Planning Commission and the Anchorage Charter Commission . He was then elected Governor of Alaska in 1981, an office he held from December 6, 1982 to December 1, 1986.
