Billey Demirtaş (* 1977 in Istanbul , Turkey ) is a German-Kurdish film and theater actor .

Life

Billey Demirtaş has lived in Germany since he was 2 years old. He is the third of seven children. Even before graduating from high school, he played theater at the age of 18. He then completed his community service and then began to study pedagogy, film and television studies and social psychology at the Ruhr University in Bochum . From 2006 to 2010 he lived in Berlin and then moved back to Bochum.

Billey Demirtas received his acting training from Herbert Leitz in Düsseldorf and completed it in workshops at “The studio international film actors' training” in Los Angeles and at the “Alte Post” theater in Neuss.

In the theater sector he played in 1001 Nights today at the Oberhausen Theater under the direction of Mohammad-Ali Behoudi , was seen in Illness of Youth at the Bochum Theater under the direction of Christoph Gosepath and in Kikeri Kiste under the direction of Thomas Schiffmann at the Schildatheater Oberhausen. He also had guest contracts at various other theaters.

He became known to a wide audience in 2004 for the role of Ercin in the comedy Men Like Us . In 2005 he returned to the theater for the play 1001 Nights Today . Then he also took on television roles, for example in 2006 in the episode sketch of a dead person in the ZDF crime series Kommissarin Lucas .

From 2007 to 2010 Demirtaş played one of the leading roles in the ZDF series KDD - Criminal Continuous Service as detective inspector Mehmet Kilic . KDD won the German Television Prize and the Grimme Prize for best series. Several television projects followed.

In 2011 Billey Demirtas had a leading role in the French film Si tu meurs, je te tue ("If you die, I will kill you"). Directed by Hiner Saleem . In 2013 he made the international movie Before Snowfall ("The Boy Siyar") directed by Hisham Zaman. In 2016 Demirtas played again in an international co-production in The Milan Protocol by Peter Ott. After that, in 2017 he starred in the TV movie I belong to him the teacher Mr.Yildirim.

For the short film Der Mandarinenbaum 2018 by Cengiz Akaygün, Billey Demirtas received his first three individual awards for Best Actor at the TMFF Film Festival, the Bucharest ShortCut Cinefest and the Feel The Reel Film Festival 2019.
