The biomass power plant Schilling is a biomass cogeneration plant built by Holzwerk Schilling in 2008 in Schwendi in the Biberach district in Upper Swabia .

history

In the course of 2008, a biomass block-type thermal power station was planned at the southern entrance to the town from Schwendi to Gutenzell and built by the South Tyrolean architect Matteo Thun with an output of 6.7  MW . The development of the technical, economic and ecological concept ( business plan) as well as the system planning was taken over by the company Gammel Engineering from Abensberg. This power plant was inaugurated on September 13, 2008 in the presence of the then Environment Minister of Baden-Württemberg Tanja Gönner , District Administrator Heiko Schmid and Abbot General of the Premonstratensian Order Thomas Handgrätinger . It was considered one of the most beautiful biomass power plants in Germany. The power plant theoretically covered the electricity needs of 1,450 single-family houses . The fuel of the power plant was tree bark , horse manure and wood chips . The system generated heat for the room heating and the company's own wood drying system in Schwendi. A branch of the district heating connection went to Dietenbronn and supplied the local specialist clinic for neurology . The construction costs of the plant amounted to eight million euros.

On June 18, 2014, the Schilling woodworks with its production sites in Rot an der Rot and Schwendi, to which the power plant also belongs, filed for bankruptcy at the competent Ravensburg District Court . In 2017 Stephan Lohmeyer (SL Business Development and Scantec Industrieanlagen Feldkirchen) acquired the power plant. The machines and systems were dismantled and used at a different location.
