Birni Ader

Birni Ader (also: Birnin Adar , Birni n'Ader and Birnin Ader , short: Birni ) is a village in the rural municipality of Garhanga in Niger .
The village, led by a traditional chief ( chef traditionnel ), is located around ten kilometers northwest of Garhanga, the capital of the rural community of the same name, which belongs to the Keita department in the Tahoua region. It is located in the center of the Ader Doutchi mountain range . The nearest city is Keita, about 16 kilometers away as the crow flies .
After the conquest of the province of Ader by the Sultanate of Aïr in 1674, Birni Ader was the capital of the province and the seat of the serki n'Ader , governor of the Sultan of Aïr. The Hausa word Birni means "walled city" or "capital". At the beginning of the 19th century, Illéla Birni replaced Ader as the capital.
At the 2012 census, Birni Ader had 2,437 inhabitants who lived in 368 households. At the 2001 census, the population was 1,836 in 267 households, and at the 1988 census, the population was 1,248 in 207 households.
