The Bismarck class is a series of five passenger ships that were completed in 1904 at the Stettiner Oderwerke . The ships were propelled by steam engines. Some ships were later rebuilt, lengthened and re-motorized.
The ships Backschaft (see construction number 541) and Heiterkeit (see construction number 543)
have been preserved to this day.
history
In 1901 the shipping company Spree-Havel-Dampfschiffahrt-Gesellschaft Stern , or SpHDG Stern for short, carried more than a million passengers across Berlin and adjacent waters. The motto Een Vagniejen of its own kind is never a water trip as the Berliners said, began to come true. By the First World War , the capacities of the Märkische and Berlin passenger shipping companies were expanded. The trips were extended from Spandau via Wannsee to Potsdam and on to Ferch and Werder (Havel) . Further new buildings were added to the company. In 1903, SpHDG Stern ordered five high-speed twin-screw steamers from the Stettiner Oderwerke shipyard , which were completed in 1904. The steamers of the Bismarck class could carry between 305 and 340 people. They were baptized in the names of famous personalities such as Prince O. Bismarck , Theodor Fontane , Ad. V. Menzel , Professor Rud. Virchow and Count H. Moltke . The type ship is hull number 543, the last ship of the class.

The type ship of the class remained in Berlin after the war . It was sunk by German soldiers in Oberschöneweide shortly before the end of the war, lifted after the war, restored and renamed Neptune . Takeover by the DSU in 1957 and renamed again, now in Friedenswacht . 1959/60 conversion to a motor ship and lengthened by six meters at the Aken shipyard . Deck and superstructures have been increased and changed. In 1980 the Genthin shipyard, now SET Schiffbau- u. Development company Tangermünde subjected the ship to a general overhaul. The ship was in use until the end of the 1990s, then was laid up and lies in Berlin-Treptow. It is used as a recording studio. |
