history
Pope Paul VI founded the Apostolic Prefecture Balasore with the Apostolic Constitution Rerum condicio catholicarum on June 8, 1968 from cession of territory by the Archdiocese of Calcutta .
With the Apostolic Constitution Opportunum sane , it was raised to a diocese on December 18, 1989, which was subordinated to the Archdiocese of Cuttack-Bhubaneswar as a suffragan diocese.
