The diocese of Caxias do Maranhão ( Latin Dioecesis Caxiensis in Maragnano ) is in Brazil located Roman Catholic diocese , based in Caxias in the state of Maranhão .
history
The diocese of Caxias do Maranhão was on July 22, 1939 by Pope Pius XII. established with the Apostolic Constitution Si qua dioecesis nimia from cessions of territory of the Archdiocese of São Luís do Maranhão and subordinated to this as a suffragan . On July 19, 1941, Luís Gonzaga da Cunha Marelim was appointed the first bishop of the new diocese. On December 20, 1954, the diocese of Caxias do Maranhão gave parts of its territory to the establishment of the Territorial Prelature of Santo Antônio de Balsas .
