Luís d'Andrea

Luís d'Andrea OFMConv , actually Luigi d'Andrea (born February 23, 1934 in Albano , Province of Rome , Italy ; † September 8, 2012 in Anzio , Province of Rome) was an Italian religious and Roman Catholic bishop of Caxias do Maranhão .

Life

Luís d'Andrea attended the Small Seminary in Cave after the end of the Second World War . At the age of 17 he joined the religious order of the Minorites in Piglio , one of the oldest monasteries of the Franciscan conventuals. On October 4, 1952 he made his profession and studied Catholic theology and philosophy in Rome . He was ordained a priest on December 19, 1959 . He studied pastoral theology and parapsychology . In 1961 he became rain of the seminary in Cave. In 1966 he took over the pastor's position at the Basilica of St. Francis in Viterbo .

As a result of the Second Vatican Council , he took part in an evangelism program in Zé Doca , Maranhão , with three other confreres in 1968 . He stayed there for 15 years. In São Luís , he was in charge of the Franciscan seminary of the Infant Jesus of Prague for four years .

Pope . John Paul II appointed him on October 29, 1987 Bishop of Caxias do Maranhão and donated to him on January 6, 1988 at St. Peter's Basilica , the episcopal ordination ; Co-consecrators were the Curia Archbishops Eduardo Martínez Somalo and Giovanni Battista Re . His episcopal motto was Iustitia et pax ("Justice and Peace").

On March 19, 2010, Benedict XVI. his resignation request submitted for reasons of age. He last lived in the Franciscan convent in Fortaleza .
