history

The diocese De Aar was founded on March 24, 1953 by Pope Pius XII. Erected from the cession of territory by the Diocese of Aliwal as Apostolic Prefecture De Aar . On April 13, 1967, the Apostolic Prefecture De Aar was by Pope Paul VI. raised to the diocese and subordinated to the Archdiocese of Cape Town as a suffragan .
