The diocese Gregorio de Laferrère was established on November 25, 2000 by Pope John Paul II with the Apostolic Constitution Haud parva laetitia from cessions of territory from the diocese of San Justo and subordinated to the Archdiocese of Buenos Aires as a suffragan .
