history

The Diocese of Okigwe was established on January 24, 1981 by Pope John Paul II with the Apostolic Constitution Quandoquidem Sanctissima from cessions of territory from the Diocese of Umuahia and subordinated to the Archdiocese of Onitsha as a suffragan . The Diocese of Okigwe was subordinated to the Archdiocese of Owerri as a suffragan on March 26, 1994 .
