The Bistum Ondo ( lat. : Dioecesis Ondoensis ) is in Nigeria preferred Roman Catholic diocese based in Akure .
history
Pope Pius XII founded the Apostolic Vicariate Ondo - Ilorin on January 12, 1943 from cession of territory by the Apostolic Vicariate Benin Coast .
With the Apostolic Constitution Laeto accepimus it was raised to the rank of diocese on April 18, 1950, which was subordinated to the Archdiocese of Lagos as a suffragan diocese and took its current name. On March 26, 1994, it became part of the ecclesiastical province of the Archdiocese of Ibadan .
It lost parts of its territory in favor of the establishment of the following dioceses:
- January 20, 1960 to the Apostolic Prefecture of Ilorin ;
- July 30, 1972 to the Diocese of Ado-Ekiti .
