Black is located in southeast Alabama in the southern United States in townships 17 and 26 of the Public Land Survey System . The place is just a few meters north of the Florida border . The city limits are almost square and each edge is 10,400 feet (3.17 kilometers).
Nearby places include Hartford (7 km north), Esto (7 km southeast), Geneva (8 km west), Noma (9 km southeast) and Slocomb . The next larger city with 205,000 inhabitants is the capital of Alabama, Montgomery, about 150 kilometers to the north .
history
In 1902 the railway line from Georgiana, Alabama to Graceville, Florida (Graceville Branch) through the area of the city of Black was completed. As a result, a post office was opened in the same year. The city was founded in 1905. The city was named after the founding family.

Black is connected by a main road to Alabama State Route 167 , about 6 kilometers east, and 5 kilometers south to Florida State Road 2 .
Geneva Municipal Airport is about 11 kilometers to the northwest .
Through the place led the started by the Alabama and Florida Railroad and completed and operated by the Louisville and Nashville Railroad railway line from Georgiana (Alabama) to Graceville (Florida) . From 1980 the line was operated by the L&N successor company Seaboard System Railroad and discontinued in 1984.

As of the 2000 census , Black had 202 residents, spread across 85 households and 57 families.
