Graceville is a city in Jackson County in the US state of Florida with 2,278 inhabitants (as of 2010).

geography

Graceville is about 30 km northwest of Marianna and about 130 km northwest of Tallahassee , a few kilometers south of the border with Alabama .

history

The Alabama and Florida Railway connected Graceville westward with Samson and Georgiana in Alabama from 1901 . Shortly after the line opened, it was taken over by the Louisville and Nashville Railroad . The L&N built an extension east to Campbellton in 1971 , where it met the Atlanta and St. Andrews Bay Railroad (ASAB) route. The section west of the city was closed in 1984, the section to Campbellton around ten years later.

Demographic data

According to the 2010 census, the then 2278 inhabitants were distributed over 1184 households. The population density was 205.2 inh / km². 70.5% of the population identified themselves as whites , 24.3% as African-Americans , 0.5% as Indians and 0.2% as Asian Americans . 1.9% said they belonged to another ethnic group and 2.6% to several ethnic groups. 4.2% of the population was made up of Hispanics or Latinos .

In 2010 children under the age of 18 lived in 28.3% of all households and persons aged 65 or over lived in 30.9% of all households. 58.3% of households were family households (consisting of married couples with or without offspring or one parent with offspring). The average household size was 2.30 people and the average family size was 2.98 people.

25.5% of the population were younger than 20 years old, 29.2% were 20 to 39 years old, 20.2% were 40 to 59 years old, and 25.2% were at least 60 years old. The mean age was 35 years. 46.9% of the population were male and 53.1% were female.

The median annual income was $ 25,221, with 27.9% of the population living below the poverty line.

In 2000, English was the first language of 96.21% of the population and Spanish spoke 3.79%.

Graceville is crossed by Florida State Roads 2 and 77 . The Northwest Florida Beaches International Airport is located about 90 km south of the city.

The crime rate in 2010 was 193 points (US average: 266 points) in the low range. There was one robbery, one assault, 23 break-ins, 54 thefts and three car thefts.
