The Blackfoot River is an approximately 200 km long right tributary of the Clark Fork in the US state of Montana .
River course
The Blackfoot River arises at the confluence of its source streams Anaconda Creek and Beartrap Creek in the Rocky Mountains on the west side of the continental divide . The headwaters of the Blackfoot River are in the Helena National Forest . The river flows mainly in a westerly direction through the mountains. He passes the town of Lincoln . Coming from the north, the North Fork Blackfoot River and the Clearwater River flow into the Blackfoot River. This finally flows into the Clark Fork 9 km east of Missoula . The Montana Highway 200 follows the course of the river. The Interstate 90 crosses the flow immediately above the mouth thereof.
Hydrology
The catchment area of the Blackfoot River covers 5985 km². The mean discharge is 44 m³ / s. The highest monthly discharges occur in May and June with an average of 139 and 136 m³ / s, respectively.
