Blanc-Sablon (French: "white sand") is the easternmost municipality ( Municipalité ) of the Canadian province of Québec .
location
Blanc-Sablon is located in the south of the Labrador Peninsula on the north coast of the Belle Isle Strait . Administratively, the municipality belongs to the MRC Le Golfe-du-Saint-Laurent within the administrative region of Côte-Nord . The small river Rivière de Blanc-Sablon flows into the sea in the village.

There is a ferry connection from Blanc-Sablon to St. Barbe (in bad weather conditions, alternatively to Corner Brook ) on Newfoundland . The Route 138 (Québec) leads from Blanc-Sablon nearly 70 km to the west to the fishing village of Vieux-Fort , which the municipality of Bonne-Espérance belongs. In an easterly direction, the road continues beyond the provincial border with Newfoundland and Labrador through the Trans-Labrador Highway ( Route 510 ). In addition, the only airport ( IATA : YBX) is located in Blanc-Sablon .

Blanc-Sablon has had the status of a municipality since 1990.
Residents
In the 2016 census, the municipality had a population of 1,112. Five years earlier it was 1,118. Thus, the population has decreased slightly in recent years. About a fifth of the population are Métis .
