particularities |
The Blankenburger See is a quarry pond in the eastern urban area of Oldenburg . It is located outside the urban development on the other side of the Federal Highway 29 and immediately south of the Hunte . It is named after the adjacent former Blankenburg monastery and the Blankenburger Mark to the east .
The lake has a water surface of 21.5 hectares and is a maximum of 16 meters deep. It is almost rectangular in shape and measures around 700 meters in north-south direction and around 300 meters in east-west direction. It is at sea level (0 meters above sea level). The Hunte flows in the north of the lake 500 m away. The federal motorway 29 runs around 50 meters from the west bank. For the construction of the ramp of the motorway to the high bridge over the Hunte it was necessary to remove a large amount of sand from the ground. The Blankenburger See owes its existence to the construction of the motorway, as do the quarry ponds in the north and south of the city of Oldenburg.
The lake is in the Huntemarsch . Immediately to the north and west there is an approximately 55 hectare forest area on a Geest island . The rest of the area around the lake consists of (old) marsh-typical permanent grassland.
The Blankenburger See is used by divers as a diving spot . Nudity is allowed on the south and west banks of the lake .
The lake is owned by the Sportfischer-Verein Oldenburg e. V. used as fishing waters. In 2010, eel , perch , pike , carp , roach and pikeperch were reported from the lake.
