Blastodacna vinolentella is a butterfly ( moth ) from the family of elachistidae (Elchistidae).

features

The moths reach a wingspan of 9 to 12 millimeters. The head shines dark brown. The antennae also have a dark brown sheen and are more dark gray and indistinctly curled in the distal half. Thorax and tegulae have a dark brown sheen. The forewings shimmer dark brown. An indistinct gray-white, light-brown mixed costal spot is in the last quarter of the Costa loader. There are two large tufts of scales on the inner edge of the wing. The first is in the first third, the second in the second third. The latter is larger and surrounded by gray-white scales on the inside . A gray-white, indistinct, arched band runs between the tufts of scales. A similar bandage runs in the subapical area from the costal patch to the wing inner edge. The fringed scales are dark brown at the apex and gray-brown towards the base. You have an indistinct cross line. The hind wings have a brownish gray sheen.

In the males, the gnathos arms are very short, the ends are spherical and have six or seven rows of spines. The tegumen is short and tapers sharply distally. The blades are about twice as long as the tegumen, slender and very broad at the base. The tip is rounded and widened. The annellus lobes are fused in the first half, the second half forms a blunt point. They are curved inwards, on the inside there is a strong dorsal fold. The aedeagus is long and slender and curved in the distal half. The vesica has a spiked spot.

In the females, the genital plate is reduced to a small flat V-shaped sclerotization . The antrum is tubular and narrows to the ostium. The ductus bursae has a round sclerotized plate in front of the antrum. The corpus bursae is egg-shaped, the signum is slightly granulated.

Similar species

Blastodacna vinolentella can be distinguished from the other species of the genus by its relatively broad black-brown fore wings with only a few whitish scales . Blastodacna georgiella is an exception ; this species has a gray frons and on the forewings a small white spot surrounds the tuft of scales inside.

distribution

The species is represented in Central and Southern Europe , the range extends from Holland to Greece .

biology

Little is known about the biology of the species. Even if the grapevine ( Vitis vinifera ) is mentioned in the literature, there is no evidence that the caterpillars were bred on this plant. Rather, it can be assumed that Diakonoff followed the first description of Herrich-Schäffer , who mentioned in 1854: "finds in vines in July". Various records of caterpillars on the buds of apple trees ( Malus ) and young shoots of the common hawthorn ( Crataegus monogyna ) are apparently confused with the melanistic form of Blastodacna atra . The moths fly from early June to early August.
