The sports club SV Blau-Weiss from 1920 Emden-Borssum eV is a popular sports club from the Borssum district of Emden . With almost 2000 members, the club is the second largest popular sports club in Emden (after the Integrated Sports Club / ISV Emden) and the third largest in East Friesland (after the MTV Aurich ).

history

The club was founded as a workers gymnastics and sports club Glück-Auf Borssum in 1920 . The ban on the workers' sports movement in 1933 led to its dissolution, as a result of which the SV Blau-Weiss Borssum was founded. After the dissolution in 1945, the lawn sports club Borssum was established , but in 1948 it again took its current name.

As the highlight of the celebrations for the 50th anniversary of the club, a friendly match between SV Blau-Weiß Borssum and Hamburger SV took place in Borssum's EMS stadium on August 30, 1970. Before the game, Uwe Seeler was the first non-Emden to be awarded the city of Emden's silver sports medal. HSV won the subsequent game with goals from Klaus Zaczyk, Hans-Werner Kremer and Peter Nogly 3-0.

Divisions

The club has football , table tennis , volleyball , gymnastics with various courses, athletics , handball , basketball including wheelchair basketball, frisbee , darts , badminton and sports badges . There is also a culture department with a choir , the old men’s club, the blue-white ladies, the game and clubbing afternoons and a separate theater department .

Sports facilities

The football department plays its competitive games in the Ems Stadium, which can hold up to 3,000 spectators. The football department also uses the two squares on Birkenweg and the school sports field of the Borssum Oberschule for games and training.

The club's own triple hall, the Borssum sports center, is directly adjacent to the sports center and offers perfect conditions for indoor sports. On the upper floor of the hall there is also a club's own sauna and course rooms for dance or smaller sports groups.

The club restaurant and sports club are located on the first floor of the sports center.

Blau-Weiss Borssum achieved its first success in 1931 with the East Frisian championship in workers' sport. In 1952, the club rose to the amateur league 1 , which was then the third highest division. In 1954 they were relegated, but from 1957 to 1964 the club was back in third class. At that time, Borssum also managed a 4-1 cup win against the then top division club (top division at the time) Bremerhaven 93 .

After another year of fourth class, they rose again in 1965. This made Borssum number one in Emden football for the first time in its history. Kickers Emden only played in the fourth division at the time. In 2006 Borssum won the Emden Hallenstadt Championship for the first time in 25 years after having made it to the finals 13 times. In 2008 you could win the title a second time.

In the 2014/15 season, the first men's team achieved the biggest success of the recent past with the runner-up in the district league and received the opportunity to move up to the regional league Weser / Ems by renouncing the champions SV Concordia Ihrhove . However, after an internal discussion, the team also decided to forego promotion and to compete in the district league in the 2015/16 season, where they still play today (as of 2019).

Success in volleyball

A unique success story of the Borssum volleyball players began in 2005 with the championship in the district class and the associated promotion to the district league. In the years that followed, the team made it up every year and so within eight years made the leap from the district class to the third class regional league.

  • 2005 - district class
  • 2006 - District League
  • 2007 - district class
  • 2008 - District League
  • 2009 - National League
  • 2010 - Association League
  • 2011 - Major League
  • 2012 - Regional League

If the relegation was still in the regional league in the first year, the team was relegated to the league in the following year. The team now plays in the association league.

Due to the success of the first women's team, the entire division also grew, so that currently three women's teams and one youth team are active in the club.

Success in table tennis

The club's first table tennis team played for 19 years in the regional league, which was the third division in table tennis. Thanks to this time the club has developed into an East Frisian stronghold for table tennis. Currently (as of 2019) the club takes part in the game with five men's, four women's, four senior and six junior teams, making it one of the table tennis divisions in Lower Saxony with the largest number of members. The first men, the first women and the second women each play in the regional league. The first senior women 40 and the first senior women 60 are active in the Lower Saxony league. The first boys 18 and first boys 15 each play in the district league.
