The bluebeard leaf bird ( Chloropsis cyanopogon ) is a species of bird from the family of leaf birds (Chloropseidae).
The Latin additional species comes from ancient Greek κυανός kyanós , German 'blue' and πώγων pṓgōn , German 'beard' .
The bird is found in Southeast Asia in Brunei , Indonesia , Malaysia , Myanmar , Malay Peninsula, and Thailand .
The distribution area includes tropical or subtropical moist deep forest and their margins.
features
The bird is 15–16 cm tall, the male weighs 20–23 g, the female 18–21 g. The male looks very similar to the thick-billed leaf bird ( Chloropsis sonnerati ), but is smaller, has a slimmer beak and a yellowish border around its black face. The black mask extends over the throat to the chest and the base of the beak. A bluish-green sheen can be seen on the wings of the hand . The rest of the plumage is slightly shiny grass-green, the underside is a little paler. The iris is dark brown, the bill blackish, the lower bill slate black. Females and juveniles are green throughout without a yellowish throat or eye ring. The female has a slight yellow tinge on the ear covers .
Geographic variation
The following subspecies are recognized:
- C. c. septentrionalis Robinson & Kloss , 1919 - English Yellow-bordered Leafbird - extreme south of Myanmar ( Tanintharyi region ), southwest of Thailand and north of the Malay Peninsula
- C. c. cyanopogon Temminck , 1830, nominate form - English Lesser Green Leafbird - south of the Malay Peninsula, Sumatra and Borneo (also Pulau Banggi )
voice
The male's singing is described as a loud, varied series of warbling phrases.
Way of life
The food is varied, it consists of arthropods , fruits , and occasionally nectar .
The breeding season is between February and August.
Hazardous situation
The stock is considered to be near threatened due to habitat loss.
