The blue mänderle ( Paederota bonarota ), also wild mannderle or Dolomite speedwell , is a plant species from the plantain family that is endemic in the southeastern Alps .
features
The Blue Mänderle is a perennial, herbaceous plant that reaches heights of five to 15 centimeters. The stems are usually leafed with three opposite pairs of leaves. The leaves are undivided, less than three inches long and up to two inches wide. There are five to a maximum of nine teeth on each side. The leaves are dark green and slightly leathery to rigid.
The chalice is fivefold. The corolla is deep purple-blue, also blue and rarely pink. It is eight to 13 millimeters long. The stamens are significantly longer than the corolla. Flowering time is July, less often in August.
The fruits are many-seeded capsules .
distribution
The species is endemic to the southeastern Alps. Their distribution area is limited to Carinthia (Gailtaler Alps, Carnic Alps, Nockberge), Salzburg (Kitzbüheler Alpen, Leoganger and Loferer Steinberge), East Tyrol (Carnic Alps), South Tyrol, the Julian Alps and some other areas in northern Italy .
The Blaue Mänderle grows in limestone crevices of the subalpine to alpine altitude and occurs only scattered or very rarely in the entire distribution area.
Systematics
The Blue Mänderle forms hybrids with the Yellow Mänderle ( Paederota lutea ) in locations where both species occur together, for example on the Gartnerkofel . The characteristics of the hybrids stand between the two species, the crown is yellowish-dirty-purple.
