history

The place Bleckenrode was first mentioned in 1420 as Blegkenrode in the Quedlinburg list of goods . The place arose in the third settlement period ( -rode = rode = riede, clearing). The settlement probably originated with the establishment of a manor by those von Westernhagen who owned it for several centuries. At the beginning of the 19th century the estate came to other private owners, the owners then changed several times, in 1923 the estate had an area of 138 hectares of land. In September 1945 the estate was expropriated and the mansion was demolished soon after.

With the expansion of the border facilities on the inner German border and the establishment of the restricted area of the GDR , the place was subject to severe impairments and could only be entered with special permission. An observation tower was built directly on the edge of the village , from which the entire location could be monitored. Administratively, the place belonged to Böseckendorf for a long time. Today about 130 people live in Bleckenrode, before the fall of the Wall (until 1989) the population was about 90.
