Block Shot ( English :. Block in basketball) is a German band that in early 2007, Bonn was founded and the Riot Grrrl committed -Tradition. Since then there have been tours in Europe , Southeast Asia and the USA , as well as one 7 "and two albums on F-Spin Records.

history

Shortly after the formation, the band played their debut concert together with the band Partyline. This was followed in October of the same year by a 16-day European tour and further appearances with well-known bands such as Jenny Hoyston's Paradise Island and Rhythm King and her Friends, as well as invitations to lady festivals (Bonn, Cologne, Düsseldorf, Liège, Aachen). In 2008, just before the band's tour of England and Ireland , drummer Axel quit . The band nevertheless played the tour by digitally playing the recorded drum tracks during these concerts. In September 2009 Nina got on board and learned the set in a very short time in order to participate in the Asia tour sponsored by the Goethe-Institut . After the tour on the west coast of the USA, supported by the Initiative Musik , Nina split from the band. Blockshot were named radio stars by the Church of Girl.

Texts

In terms of text, the band can be assigned to the queer-feminist spectrum and deals with topics such as sexual violence, the constructed nature of gender, biphobia and self-exploitation. In general, the band tends to move in the left spectrum and also deals with the destruction of the planet, the side effects of capitalism, poserism, insensitivity of media reporting, irresponsible handling of data and expectations of society. But many of the texts are also ironic, symbolic and playful and sometimes just emotional.

Influences

Although no clear influences can be named or heard, the band is often associated in reviews with Bikini Kill , Sleater-Kinney , Team Dresch , Hole , Babes in Toyland , Pixies , Fugazi and Sonic Youth .
