The cauliflower mosaic virus ( scientifically Cauliflower Mosaic Virus , CaMV ) is a species of plant virus from the Caulimoviridae family that predominantly infects cruciferous vegetables . Butterflies of the genus Pieris are primarily considered as the transmission vector .
application
The virus is an effective vector for introducing foreign DNA . The viral promoter controls the formation of the 35S mRNA . The so-called 35S promoter is one of the strongest known in plants. It is used in genetic engineering for overexpression . Due to its low tissue specificity, it is active in almost all plant cell types. In food analysis , the PCR detection of the CaMV 35S promoter can be used to exclude genetically modified ingredients in food and feed.
