Robert "Bob" Scott (born October 4, 1928 in Watsonville , California , † July 5, 1954 in Darlington , South Carolina ) was an American racing car driver .

Career

Scott started the AAA National Series in 15 races between 1951 and 1954 . His best results were there two fifth places, which he achieved in 1953 in succession at the races in Sacramento and Phoenix . Both times he drove a Nichels - Offenhauser .

He qualified for the Indianapolis 500 in 1952 and 1953. Both times he had to give up early. In 1953 , however, after 71 laps, he took over the car from Carl Scarborough , who was suffering from heat stroke and who later died as a result. He drove the vehicle to 12th place. The race day in 1954 was almost as hot as in 1953. Scott had actually not qualified for the race, but he temporarily took over from Linden and Elisian at the wheel. (Driver changes were allowed at the time). Since the race from 1950 to 1960 was a race of the Formula 1 World Championship , Scott was also at the start of three World Championship races . He couldn't score any points.

Bob Scott had a fatal accident in an AAA national race in Darlington in 1954 .
