Player career

Youth and college

Boswell was born in Texas but grew up in Tampa , Florida . He played soccer as a child and was active for the Clearwater Chargers, a local youth soccer club. After high school, he attended Florida International University in Miami , Florida. There Bobby played college soccer for the FIU Golden Panthers. At the end of his college days, he was not selected in either the MLS SuperDraft or the Supplemental Draft by a Major League Soccer team.

Started at DC United

Boswell got the chance to play at DC United in the preseason. He was able to convince those responsible and was signed for the 2005 season. Due to an injury to Bryan Namoff , Boswell became a regular at the beginning of the season. He started the season with good games, but set a new league record with three own goals. In the 2006 season he was able to defend his regular place and was elected the best defender of the MLS at the end of the season.

Houston Dynamo

At the end of the 2007 season, he was transferred to Houston Dynamo in exchange for Zach Wells and a pick in the second round of the 2009 MLS SuperDraft. Here, too, he was able to assert himself as a regular player.

Return to DC United

After his contract expired in late 2013, he entered the MLS Re-Entry Draft. There he was committed again by DC United.

National team

January 2006 Boswell was appointed to the United States national soccer team for the first time . He played his first international game on February 19, 2006 against Guatemala.
