Robert "Bobby" Evans (born July 16, 1927 in Glasgow ; † September 1, 2001 ) was a Scottish football player and coach.

career

Evans joined Celtic Glasgow as a junior player in 1944 . Initially a striker , he was converted to half under coach Jimmy McGrory . In this position he flourished and became an undisputed regular player. By 1960 he played over 400 competitive games for the club and became a national player. Between 1948 and 1960 he played 48 international matches - at times as team captain - for the Scottish national team , for which he took part in the 1954 and 1958 World Championships .

From 1960 he tried outside Scotland, and played one season at Chelsea before he for one season as a player-coach for the AFC Newport County met. He then returned to Scotland as a player at Greenock Morton . In 1963 he moved to Third Lanark , where he also worked as a game coach in his second year. Between 1965 and 1968 he ended his career with the Raith Rovers .
