Bobby Kapp

Bobby Kapp (* 11. April 1942 in Perth Amboy as Robert Kaplan ) is an American jazz - drummer (also vocals, percussion).

Live and act

Kapp, who grew up in Highland Park, New Jersey , sang as a child before turning to drums as a teenager. He studied percussion at the Berklee School of Music and toured Cuba with Cilla before moving to New York. From the mid-1960s he played there with avant-garde and free jazz musicians such as Byard Lancaster , Sirone and Noah Howard and Marion Brown (Three for Shepp) , with whom he made his first recordings in 1966. He also worked with Dave Burrell and Gato Barbieri during this time .

It was not until the 1990s that Kapp took part in recordings again when he played with Mike Richmond in the trio of woodwind player Bob Ackerman . With Richard Wyands and Gene Perla he formed the Fine Wine Trio ; an album of the same name was created in 1998. In a duo with Noah Howard, he recorded the album Between Two Eternities ( Cadence Jazz Records ) in 1999 . In the field of jazz he was involved in twelve recording sessions from 1966, most recently in a duo with Matthew Shipp (Cactus) and with Cuban musicians on Cilla sin Embargo .
