Bodo Zehm (* 1951 in Engter ) is a German prehistorian and archaeologist who worked at the Osnabrück City and District Archeology from 1981 and headed it from 2002 until his retirement in 2017.

Career

Bodo Zehm studied education and media sciences at the University of Osnabrück and from 1977 worked as a museum educator at the Osnabrück Cultural History Museum . In 1981 he switched to the city and district archeology of Osnabrück as an excavation photographer, where he was involved in various excavations, including the Marienkirche and the Osnabrück town hall . From 1986 he led excavations and projects in Osnabrück and the district of Osnabrück . This included the research project "Eschprospektion" in the Osnabrücker Land, funded by the Volkswagen Foundation, to research the Plaggeneschboden , the excavations in front of the former Osnabrück Dominican monastery and the investigation of the prehistoric burial ground on the Bornhügel in Gretesch . In the 1990s he led excavations at the Osnabrück Cathedral and the buried bridge of the former city fortifications of Osnabrück in front of the Heger Tor at the Felix Nussbaum House .

In 1992 Bodo Zehm became deputy head of the “Archaeological Monument Preservation” department in Osnabrück, in whose development he was involved. At the beginning of 2003 he took over the management of the specialist service as successor to Wolfgang Schlueter . Zehm curated exhibitions such as “Castles and Fortifications - 25 Years of City and District Archeology Osnabrück” and the exhibition project for the 500th anniversary of the Osnabrück town hall.

The end of his professional career was the excavation and investigation of the copper treasure of Osnabrück . A probe worker discovered the Neolithic hoard in 2016 on the site of a rainwater retention basin in the Lüstringen district . In 2017, Bodo Zehm retired after 36 years of archaeological activity and handed over the management of the Osnabrück city and district archeology to his long-time deputy, Axel Friederichs . Since then, Zehm has been committed to the preservation of megalithic tombs and is managing director of the European cultural route project "Megalithic Routes", a project similar to the German megalithic route .
