The Bolshoi Oju ( Russian Большой Ою ; "Big Oju"; also Великая ( Velikaya )) is a tributary of the Kara Sea in the Nenets Autonomous Okrug in northern Russia .
The Bolshoi Oju rises on the northeast slope of the Pai-Choi Mountains . It flows through a tundra landscape in a north-westerly direction along the northeast flank of the Pai-Choi Mountains to the Jugor Strait , a strait that separates the island of Waigatsch from the mainland and connects the Barents Sea with the Kara Sea. The Bolshoi Oju forms a small river delta at its mouth on the south bank of the eastern section of the Jugor Strait .
The Bolshoi Oju has a length of 175 km. It drains an area of 3070 km². The river is fed by snowmelt as well as precipitation .
