Bonaventure II. Bucher (born January 10, 1719 in Bremgarten as Franz Karl Antonin Josef Bucher , † June 3, 1776 in Muri ) was a Swiss Benedictine monk . From 1757 until his death he was the prince abbot of the Muri monastery in the free offices (in today's canton of Aargau ).

biography

He was the son of Johann Franz Bucher, mayor of Bremgarten and Vogt in the cellar office , and Maria Elisabeth Honegger. In 1739 Bucher made his profession in Muri Monastery and was ordained a priest in 1744 . In the monastery school he worked as a professor of rhetoric, philosophy and theology. In 1750 he took over the post of subprior and novice master . From 1754 he worked as a chancellery director, archivist and chef. On September 5, 1757 Bucher was elected fourth prince abbot of Muri. From 1761 to 1775 he was also secretary and second visitor of the Swiss Benedictine Congregation .

Bucher's term of office is characterized by the fact that he insisted on observing the rules of the order and the statutes of the congregation. He even changed the previous order through some stricter regulations, which led to tensions in the Convention. Externally, Bucher successfully opposed the taxation of the monastery by the Bishop of Constance and Lucerne , who wanted to use the income to finance a seminary or a state church seminar. Bucher had the Horben Castle refurbished on the nearby Lindenberg . Under his leadership, the Chapter decided in 1773 to establish elementary schools in the outskirts of the parish of Muri.
