Bonaventure Foffa

Bonaventure III. Foffa OSB (born August 24, 1828 in Müstair , † September 28, 1887 in Bregenz ) was a Swiss - Austrian Benedictine monk . From 1881 until his death he was abbot of the Muri-Gries Abbey near Bozen ( South Tyrol ).

The son of Johann Baptist Foffa and Maria Anna Höllriegel from Taufers attended the grammar school of the Marienberg Abbey near Mals . He made his profession in 1849 in Muri-Gries Abbey, where he also studied theology. He was ordained a priest in 1851, after which he worked as a lecturer in philosophy and as a catechist in St. Georgen . From 1856 he officiated as subprior, novice master and lecturer of theology. Foffa was appointed dean in 1860 . After more than two decades in this office, he was elected Abbot of Muri and Prior of Gries on July 27, 1881 . As a member of the prelate class, he entered the Tyrolean Parliament in 1883 . He died in the Capuchin monastery in Bregenz .
