St. Georgen ( Italian : San Giorgio ) is a fraction of the city of Bruneck in South Tyrol ( Italy ) with a little over 2275 inhabitants and is located at 832 m above sea level.
The formerly independent municipality of St. Georgen an der Ahr , also called St. Georgen near Bruneck, was incorporated into Bruneck in 1928 against the will of the residents. The village is located around one kilometer north of Bruneck at the transition from the Tauferer Tal to the Pustertal and is surrounded by the Ahrauen. St. Georgen is one of the oldest settlements in the Puster Valley. Above the village are two sand hills, the large and the small pipe, on which traces of prehistoric ramparts can be seen. St. Georgen was a long-standing original parish, which was moved to Gais in 1014 at the request of Emperor Heinrich II and his wife Kunigunde , from which it then became a subsidiary church. Only in 1932 was it raised again to a parish church.
