Bongor is a city in southwestern Chad , in the Mayo-Kebbi Est region on the east bank of the Logone , which marks the border with Cameroon . It had 30,518 inhabitants (as of 2010) and is located in the settlement area of the Massa people. The city is located in the Ramsar area of Plaines d'inondation du Logone et les dépressions Toupouri .
history
In 1904 the German colonial officer Herbert Kund founded a military post in the immediate vicinity of the town. On November 4, 1911, the city was assigned to the French colonial territories according to the Franco-German agreement . In 1912, Adolf Friedrich describes the area near Bongor as a fertile farmland in which a lot of Durra , Alkama, wild rice and peanuts ... "are grown. A small airport with a runway is located west-northwest of the town.
education
Bongor owns two high schools, the public Lycée Jacques Moudeina, which was attended by several later politicians, and the private school Lycée-collège Mamira. The place is partnered with Gandia in Spain.
