Bongor is a city in southwestern Chad , in the Mayo-Kebbi Est region on the east bank of the Logone , which marks the border with Cameroon . It had 30,518 inhabitants (as of 2010) and is located in the settlement area of ​​the Massa people. The city is located in the Ramsar area of Plaines d'inondation du Logone et les dépressions Toupouri .

history

In 1904 the German colonial officer Herbert Kund founded a military post in the immediate vicinity of the town. On November 4, 1911, the city was assigned to the French colonial territories according to the Franco-German agreement . In 1912, Adolf Friedrich describes the area near Bongor as a fertile farmland in which a lot of Durra , Alkama, wild rice and peanuts ... "are grown. A small airport with a runway is located west-northwest of the town.

education

Bongor owns two high schools, the public Lycée Jacques Moudeina, which was attended by several later politicians, and the private school Lycée-collège Mamira. The place is partnered with Gandia in Spain.
