Herbert Kund

Karl Alfred Herbert Kund (born June 11, 1878 in Glogau ; † after 1925) was a German officer and traveler to Africa.

Life

On March 13, 1897 Kund became a lieutenant in the 5th Baden Infantry Regiment No. 113 . From September 29, 1902, he attended the Hausa class of the Seminar for Oriental Languages in Berlin . In August 1903 Kund left the Prussian army and was employed in the protection force of the Cameroon colony .

After his arrival in Cameroon, Kund was assigned to the parent company in Duala . In 1904 he was commanded into the residency of the German Tschadseeländer . Here he accompanied an expedition through the Musgum area in February and March 1904 . Kund built and managed the Bongor resident post on Logone . He was the first European to climb the Daua Mountains southwest of Bongor. From December 1904 to February 1905 the governorate of Cameroon sent him to explore the Franco-German border area between the Tuburi swamps and the Shari .

In 1907 Kund returned to Germany for health reasons and left the protection force. His departure was approved on June 15, 1907. Afterwards Kund also toured the colony of German South West Africa . During the First World War he was reused as a zD officer and last held the rank of captain . In 1924 he lived in Karlsruhe and from 1926 in Berlin.

Herbert Kund was a nephew of the Africa explorer Richard Kund .
